Recast Emerging VC Summit
Miriam and Clint led a session on Ulu’s method of portfolio construction at the Recast Emerging VC Summit. They presented Ulu’s framework for how to think about managing risk and return in a power law world, and showed how the firm is using it to make different portfolio construction choices than most firms in the industry.
Federal Reserve San Francisco Bank
Miriam was selected to be part of a small group of business leaders assessing current economic conditions and the San Francisco Bay Area business environment at the request of Federal Reserve San Francisco Bank President Mary Daly. Some of the topics explored included how economic conditions are affecting workforce decisions, the impact of AI, and trends in consumer demand.
The Alumni Society
The Alumni Society named Maria Salamanca to the Class of 2024. The Alumni Society recruits Latino leaders who have graduated from highly selective universities and colleges who seek to build meaningful connections.
Venture Forward
Miriam was a panelist for Venture Forward’s Emerging Manager Office Hours. She spoke about fundraising in today’s climate and participated in the demo day.
Latino Business Action Network
Miriam gave business and investor advice to founders practicing their pitches at the LBAN (Latino Business Action Network) graduation and startup accelerator event at Stanford. LBAN’s Business Scaling Program graduated 114 Latinos this spring.
VC Include Fellowship Program
Miriam gave a fireside chat to the 2024 cohort of the VC Include Fellowship Program, which strives to support and empower a broad array of firms seeking capital. She shared her personal history, motivations for starting a firm, the state of diversity efforts, and current attacks on DEI.
Impact Experience
Operations manager Evelyn Kempi attended Impact Experience in Montgomery, Alabama. Impact has hosted several Ulu team members and attendees have included leading asset managers, family offices, foundations, and entrepreneurs representing over $50 billion in assets under management who have explored the ways in which the history of racial terror has affected the asset management industry.
